Epilogue

Lastly before I end my blog I want to tell you about the problems we had on our journey.

bicycle problems:-
1) bicycle computer cable caught in wheel, abrasion cut the wire off so after 1st day it was useless
2) Bicycle kick stand...unable to keep bike upright ,too soft and useless for the weight of the bike with pannier bags..
3)mud guard( fenders) too narrow and short...can't keep mud from splashing on to my back..always have dirty muddy t shirt
4)Rear tail lights not bright enough for day light cycling
5) screws on pannier rack became rusty ..after days cycling in the rain
6) needs to bring synthetic lubricant coz the normal ones will wash out in the rain
7) all the spares we brought were not used at all ...we had no punctures no spokes broken no brake cable or gear cables snap

Most Useful accessories
1) sunglasses, protects the eyes from dust and sun
2) anti-pollution mask....lots of fumes from trucks and buses on highway 1
3) water bottles
4) a good padded bicycle seat( with springs)...some may swear by the "Brooks "leather seat
5) a loud horn ( I wish I had bought the "AIRZOUND" horn
6) trackking handlebar( butterfly handlebar)

Bernard, Lou

Thank you for sharing your adventure in Vietnam. With the postings and pictures, we seemed to have tasted the delicious food, felt the aches from hours and kilometres of cycling, seen the beautiful sceneries and felt the warm local hospitality.

Bravo!
Veronica and the rest of John Gan's family in Kuala Lumpur.

Hi Bernard,

Thks for reading my articles on Things Asian. I look at your Vietnam trip with great envy and it is something that will be a future must-do trip for me.

I've relocated to Perth so alas, my rides are largely here in Australia.

Keep riding and keep posting. Sumatra is very interesting to ride, esp across Lake Toba.

Hi Uncle Bernard,

Browsed through your blog & found it very interesting, shall take my time to read all the posts right from the very beginning. Your blog will also make good reference from my bike touring enthusiast mates.

If you are looking for a biking adventure closer to home, there is the Munda Biddi off road bike touring trail in Western Australia. It has been extended since 2009, at that time when I completed it was 550km over 11 days during winter. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Munda_Biddi_Trail

Told my dad yesterday that if I heard you on the streets, I would definitely recognize you, your personality is exactly what I remember to be when I was a kid.

My parents were really glad to see you again after all these years. Thank you for dropping by.

Stay cheerful & adventurous!
